The Loan Figure

I'm still heavily engaged in the notion of the figure in the landscape, usually solitary but occasionally with one other. The work of David Parks has had a huge influence on me this summer both the paint application and the subject matter. The latter is usually people he has a close relationship with and the former is his bete noir, his struggle...the paint and how he applies it. His biography 'A Painter's Life' by Nancy Boas was a brilliant read and his work ethic and cravings to improve were/are a huge inspiration.

Where did these beach scenes come from?

I'm thrilled to be posting new work to my blog, I was struggling to upload new posts but suddenly realised I set it up using an old email address and password which I'm no longer using. This is one of 3 small paintings I've been making some adjustments to. For some reason this summer I must have been craving some sea views as the beach is featuring regularly in new and revisited work.

Catching Up August 2015

I haven't been adding posts to my blog for quite a while and as I've been painting over the summer at The Makers Yard in Walthamstow, a studio I shared for a few months until we were forced out by the developers, I've got lots of catching up to do.
This painting began life a few years ago and originally there were two figures in the piece, I've recently revisited it. It's a small painting, about 25cms x 25cms.
